Hair Is Falling Out and Will Not Grow Longer: Causes and What to Do

Why does hair fall out and break? We examine the main causes, the role of ferritin, weight loss, hair care and peptides for hair.

Hair Is Falling Out and Will Not Grow Longer: What to Check and Which Products May Help

Your hair has become thinner, is left on your brush and in the bath, breaks along its length, or seems not to grow at all for months?

The first reaction is to buy another mask, ampoules or expensive shampoo. But hair loss and declining hair quality often require a multifaceted approach: it is important to understand the cause first and then select the right care and active ingredients.

Why Hair May Fall Out

One of the most common mistakes is to look for a single universal anti-hair loss product. Several factors may affect hair condition at the same time:

- low iron stores and ferritin levels;
- deficiencies in vitamin D, B12, folate, zinc and other nutrients;
- insufficient protein in the diet;
- rapid weight loss or a prolonged calorie deficit;
- stress and sleep problems;
- hormonal changes;
- thyroid dysfunction;
- androgenetic alopecia;
- frequent colouring, bleaching and heat damage.

This is why two people with the same complaint of hair loss may need entirely different approaches.

Hair Loss After Weight Loss: Why Does It Happen?

This is a very common concern.

After significant or rapid weight loss, the body may temporarily redistribute its resources. If protein, iron and other nutrient intake has also decreased, increased hair loss may appear several months later.

During weight loss, it is therefore important to monitor not only the number on the scales but also nutritional adequacy and, where indicated, laboratory values.

Why Hair Breaks and Does Not Grow Longer

Sometimes the problem is not hair falling out from the root at all.

After bleaching, frequent use of curling irons, straighteners, hot hair dryers or harsh treatments, the hair shaft becomes damaged and breaks faster than it can grow.

In this case, a different strategy is needed: protecting the lengths, conditioning, reducing heat and chemical exposure, and choosing suitable restorative care.

Peptides for Hair: Why They Are Added to Cosmetic Products

One distinct area of modern cosmetics is peptide complexes for the scalp and hair.

Peptides are short chains of amino acids. Different peptides are used in cosmetic formulations, so the word “peptide” should not be understood as the name of a single active ingredient.

One of the best known in cosmetology is GHK-Cu, or copper peptide. It is studied in the context of skin repair processes, hair follicle function and tissue remodelling.

An important point: cosmetic products containing GHK-Cu and other peptides do not replace diagnosis of the causes of pathological hair loss.

Which Is Better: Peptides, Serums or Hair Ampoules?

There is no single product that will be best for everyone.

When choosing, consider more than an appealing product name. Look at:

composition → concentration of active ingredients → product form → problem to be addressed → method of use.

For example, care for damaged lengths and products for the scalp are two different product categories.

This is why we recommend choosing products for a specific concern, not simply because they are currently popular.

What to Do If Hair Loss Is Severe

Start by identifying the type of problem: is the hair falling out from the root, or is it mainly breaking? Have you experienced rapid weight loss, stress, illness, surgery, dietary changes or hormonal changes in recent months?

For prolonged or pronounced hair loss, it is advisable to consult a doctor or dermatologist-trichologist. Depending on the indication, a complete blood count, ferritin and other iron metabolism markers, thyroid function and other values may be assessed based on the symptoms.

A personalised home care routine can then be developed.

Need a Product for Your Specific Concern?

Our catalogue includes cosmetic products, peptide complexes, and hair and skin care products.

If you are unsure what to choose for hair loss, damage after bleaching or declining hair quality, focus first on the cause and the intended use of the specific product.
