Description
Mounjaro is an injectable product based on tirzepatide, developed by Eli Lilly. Originally registered for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, it is widely used by endocrinologists and general practitioners to correct excess weight. According to the SURPASS clinical trials, patients lost from 15 to 22% of body weight over 72 weeks of therapy, results beyond the reach of most other products in this group.
Indications
Mounjaro is used in two main situations:
Type 2 diabetes, to improve glycaemic control in adult patients in combination with diet and physical activity. The product lowers HbA1c by 1.8–2.4%, which surpasses most products in this group.
Correction of excess weight and obesity, in adults with a BMI ≥30 kg/m², or with a BMI ≥27 kg/m² in the presence of comorbidities (hypertension, dyslipidaemia, sleep apnoea, type 2 diabetes).
