Cagrilintide (Amylin) 10/20 mg pen (PeptoLabs)

What kind of product is it?

Cagrilintide is an analogue of amylin, a hormone produced by the pancreas together with insulin. Amylin helps regulate satiety and slows food digestion. Natural amylin breaks down quickly, so Cagrilintide was made more stable to act for longer. The product acts on the brain, reduces appetite and regulates digestion.

When is it needed?

• To control appetite during episodes of overeating.

• For type 1 and type 2 diabetes, to improve blood glucose control together with diet and exercise.

• To reduce the risk of heart problems in people with diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

• For weight loss.

• To enhance the effects of semaglutide, mazdutide, tirzepatide and retatrutide. Lower doses of these products may be used.

Studies have shown that Cagrilintide works and is safe. A study was conducted in the United States in which patients with type 2 diabetes received semaglutide, Cagrilintide or both products together. All participants continued taking metformin.

Clinical trials have shown that Cagrilintide helps control weight and lowers blood glucose. It works on its own, and the effect is greater when it is combined with other medicines.

Who may benefit from Cagrilintide 20 mg in a pen:

• People who are overweight and do not have blood glucose problems.

• People with type 2 diabetes, before or together with GLP-1/GIP-GLP-1 receptor agonists (such as semaglutide, mazdutide, tirzepatide and retatrutide) to improve appetite and blood glucose control.

• People with type 1 diabetes who cannot take GLP-1/GIP-GLP-1 products, as an alternative option.

Adverse effects:

The most common are reduced appetite, nausea, constipation, diarrhea, slow digestion and a feeling of heaviness in the abdomen. These are usually related to how the product works and occur as the dose is increased. They are generally mild or moderate and resolve on their own.

When it must not be used:

Cagrilintide (Amylin) is not prescribed to patients:

• With a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer.

• With multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2.

• With an allergy to Cagrilintide or other components of the product.

• With intestinal obstruction.

• With frequent gastroesophageal reflux.

Use:

To reduce the risk of adverse effects, start Cagrilintide at low doses and increase gradually.

• 15 clicks = 0.5 mg

Recommended regimen:

• Starting dose:  0.5 to 1 mg subcutaneously once a week (if taking it alone or with other medicines).

• Dose increase:  If you feel well, the dose can be increased to 2 mg from the second week. If stronger appetite control is needed, increase the dose by 1 mg each week.

• If more than 4 mg per week is needed, give several injections at different sites (at least 5 cm apart).

• Weekly maximum: 6 mg.

Missed an injection? Administer it as soon as possible, but no later than 5 days (120 hours) afterward. If more time has passed, skip that dose and administer the next injection as scheduled.

• The injection day can be changed, but there must be at least 4 days (96 hours) between two injections.

• If you use Cagrilintide and insulin, inject them separately and do not mix them. The insulin dose may need to be adjusted if you start eating less.

• Cagrilintide PeptoLabs® is injected once a week at any time, regardless of meals. Injections are given under the skin of the abdomen, thigh or upper arm, using a new site each time.
