What is Tesamorelin?

Tesamorelin is an analogue of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH), consisting of standard GHRH with an additional trans-3-hexanoic acid group. Manufactured by the Canadian company Theratechnologies, Tesamorelin became the newest drug approved by the FDA for use in lipodystrophy in 2010. The peptide has also been studied for its ability to improve peripheral nerve regeneration and as a potential intervention for mild cognitive impairment (MCI), a precursor to dementia.

Research on Tesamorelin

As a GHRH analogue, Tesamorelin has all the same effects as GHRH and GHRH analogues such as sermorelin, GRF (1-29), CJC-1295 and others. Adding trans-3-hexanoic acid to Tesamorelin makes it more stable in human plasma and therefore increases its half-life. Despite this increase in half-life, Tesamorelin, like CJC-1295, retains the physiological action of GHRH and therefore has fewer side effects than similar molecules that disrupt the normal pulsatile release of growth hormone (GH).

Use:

Tesamorelin is administered subcutaneously at a dose of 1-2 mg per day within educational programmes, usually at night.

• Standard daily dose: 2 mg (2000 mcg) subcutaneously once daily (FDA-approved protocol).

• For reconstitution: add 3.0 ml of bacteriostatic water to each 10 mg vial → concentration of approximately 3.33 mg/ml.
